Seal And Coat - An Emphasis On Safety

|
Safety is extremely important to us. We utilize all available safety measures to ensure our employees as well as our customers stay safe.
For your own safety, we highly recommend you stay a safe distance from the work area when a job is being performed on your property. We also insist you keep children and pets away from the area. There can be several hazards in the work area, including but not limited to, moving trucks and equipment, as well as power equipment in use, which will create flying debris such as grass, dirt, stone and various other small objects.
Hot-pour crack sealing is accomplished by applying a sticky, rubberized sealant heated to around 360 degrees fahrenheit to as much as 400 degrees. This poses a very serious and imminent burn hazard. Hot rubberized crack sealant can also be extremely sticky when not completely cooled, and can stick to shoes, clothing and skin.
Coal-tar based asphalt sealing products, when wet and while it's drying, can also let off fumes which can cause respiratory irritation, as well as eye and skin irritation. Wet sealer can also stain shoes and clothing, can track inside cars and homes, and can be extremely difficult to remove.
These are just some of the reasons it is best to stay clear from the area. Usually, a minimum of 50 feet is sufficient. We will alert you when the area is free of hazards so that you may come and inspect the job.
Your cooperation in keeping a safe work area and reducing liability risks is appreciated |
Basic Safety Measures We Utilize
Eye Protection
We utilize OSHA approved high-impact eye protection goggles and glasses to prevent against flying stones and debris when using equipment such as weed trimmers, edgers and blowers.
Hearing Protection
When working with loud power equipment, we utilize hearing protection, such as OSHA approved ear plugs and headset style hearing protection.
Hand Protection
We utilize heavy-duty leather gloves to protect hands from cuts and abrasions, as well as prevent burns from hot rubberized crack sealant. We also use latex or rubberized water proof gloves when working with sealer to make clean up easier and keep hands clean.
Face Protection
To prevent injury to the face, face shields and/or hard hats with built-in face shields may be utilized to prevent injury from flying debris and objects. Face shields also provide protection from hot-pour crack sealant.
Body Protection
We wear long sleeved clothing to prevent injury from flying objects and hot-pour crack sealing materials. When working with hot-pour crack sealants, it is extremely important to cover up any exposed skins to prevent burns. When spraying sealer, disposable cover-alls and boot covers help keep clothing and shoes clean from overspray.
Skin Protection
To prevent sunburns, a sunscreen is applied. A skin protective gel is also applied to prevent irritation from coal-tar asphalt sealing products.
Visibility
To stay visible on the job site, and alert motorists, we implement a combination of reflective safety vests and high-visibility clothing.
Cones, Barricades And Traffic Control
To prevent entry of the work area and while waiting for asphalt sealing products to dry, we will utilize high-visibility PVC traffic cones, yellow high-visibility CAUTION barricade tape, as well as wooden barricades. We will also utilize traffic cones near vehicles and equipment parked along the sides of roadways to alert motorists of a potential hazard. In high-traffic conditions, we implement "road work ahead", "slow" and similar warning signs to alert motorists. If required, we will provide an employee or police officer in charge of traffic control to ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic
